    Year 5 Maths Challenge

On Wednesday afternoon, four of our Year 5 children went to William Ransom School to compete against other local schools in a series of Maths challenges.

They all enjoyed themselves and learnt a lot about themselves in the process as well. The challenges were in a series of 'rounds' which involved a variety of Mathematical concepts in multi-step problems.

There was a lot of rich mathematical discussion, a lot of different thought processes and an awful lot of learning in a fun, enjoyable and collaborative way, which is exactly what Maths should be!

  • Class 2 Trip to Duxford

    Class 2 Trip to Duxford

Class 2 enjoyed a fantastic day out at Duxford on Wednesday. With the snow falling outside, the children saw a variety of military and domestic planes and helicopters over the morning. They even had the chance to board and walk through Concorde and seemed to thoroughly enjoy taking part in a number of aviation based games and activities in the same building.

Following a much needed lunch break, we braved the elements to walk through the falling snow to the American hangar where there were even more amazing aircraft and helicopters to see and lots of information to take on board. One of the favourites there was the full-size 'Blackbird', which was the fastest and highest flying aircraft of it's time and was almost invisible to radar, which the children thoroughly found very exciting!

Following a short walk through some bracing winds and further falling snow, there was just enough time to get back on the warm coach and return to school. A great trip out!

    K'Nex Challenge

On Monday our Year 4, 5 and 6 children took part in the K'Nex Challenge 2018. The children worked in pairs throughout the challenge to create a working crane that met specific standards.

There was a lot of positive feedback from all of those involved and a lot of eagerness to take part in 2019's challenge! A great experience for all of those children that took part. A big well done to all of our Year 4, 5 and 6 children for some amazing crane creations!

  • ProKick

    ProKick at Wymondley

The children all became footballers for the afternoon on Friday as ProKick came to the school with their giant inflatable goal and specialised equipment that can measure how powerful a persons kick is by measuring how fast the football travels. The children all had a great time and it was wonderful to see each class cheering the name of every child as they took their turn.

A great event that everyone enjoyed and one which will raise money for both our school and ProKick's many great initiatives which include granting Sporting Wishes for children with life threatening illnesses; running 'Inspire Through Sport' programmes for disadvantaged children; and contributing towards the cost of running an orphanage in West Africa under their 'Inspire Through Sport International' banner.

Thank you to all of our wonderful parents and carers for your support with ProKick.

    Class 1 Litter Picking

Following a comment that had been made by one of our Class 1 children about the amount of rubbish that she had noticed in Little Wymondley on her way into school, the staff and children of Class 1 decided to do something about it. After consulting with our school Eco-Committee, the decision was taken to organise a litter picking trip around the village and I am pleased to be able to say that the children did a fantastic job and learnt a lot in the process. They all seemed to thoroughly enjoy using the litter pickers and performed a great deed for the village as well.

Well done Class 1! You are a great example of how we should all play our part in looking after our local environment.

  • Superhero Day

Mon 05 Feb 2018 Mr Plunkett

    Superhero Day in Class 1

Class One was awash with Superhero's on Monday as the children all wore their favourite superhero costumes into school. Mrs Harper and Mr Collins supported and assisted the children with a series of different superhero based activities over the course of the day. The highlight of which was almost certainly the superhero course over the gymnastic equipment in the hall, which gave the children the chance to perform many 'superhero moves' which they all seemed to thoroughly enjoy! The class text of 'Supertato' was at the heart of it all and some fantastic work was produced on a day that brought learning to life and put a smile on everyone's face!

  • Chinese New Year

Fri 02 Feb 2018 Mr Plunkett

    Chinese New Year

The children had a wonderful today as we celebrated Chinese New Year, which will officially be taking place on Friday 16th February. Every child had the opportunity to create their very own Chinese New Year plate through using a selection of paints. We now have a wonderful selection of plates with a wide variety of colours and designs which will be on display in the library and down the main corridor.

The fun then continued into the afternoon, as the children then took part in a traditional dragon dance, complete with music, parasols and of course a Chinese dragon!

Some thoughts on the day from children across the school:

'It was good and nice!' - Class 1

'I really liked going in the dragon, I had to go in the head and walk without falling over' - Class 1

'I really liked the dragon, I was doing the umbrellas and I had to spin it around!' - Class 2

'When we made our paper dragons, because it was crafty' - Class 2

'When we were doing the dragon dance, because I was the head and I was the leader of the Chinese dragon' - Class 2

'Doing the Chinese dragon dance, because I was the body and I couldn't see where I was going' - Class 2

'I liked it when we painted the plate, because we got to colour the dragons and make our own patterns' - Class 3

'I really liked painting the Chinese plates, because it was really fun and we got to learn Chinese symbols' - Class 3

'I liked the plates best, because we got to develop our painting skills and decorate it in our own way!' - Class 4

'Painting the Chinese plates was the best thing because I love art!' - Class 4
