    Year 6 Leavers 2018

The celebration of seven years at Wymondley JMI School started on Thursday evening with a drama performance from our Year 6 children, as they took on the roles of the school staff and reenacting what they believed might be a regular occurrence in the staff room each break and lunch time. There was enough cake and biscuits to sink a battle ship, which at times might be fairly accurate, although I can't remember any water gun fights ever taking place! A few songs and some video memories completed the first part of the evening and then it was off to the school field for the children, their families and the school staff to celebrate all that they had achieved, over an evening picnic with rounders and football.

The last day was a fitting one to see our Year 6 children of 2018 off in style. There was a Leavers Assembly in which memories were shared, hoodies and photos were presented and more than a few smiles and laughs were had as we looked back at their First Books from their time in Reception. After the obligatory shirt signing, there was time to take in the school for one last time before they walked out to applause from the rest of the school as they boarded their Party Bus on the playground before heading off for an action packed afternoon in Milton Keynes.

I know I speak on behalf of all of the staff at the school when I tell you all that you were a wonderful Year 6, you made a lasting impression on all of us and you are all ready for your next adventure in September! You will all make superb Year 7's and we look forward to hearing from you and hopefully seeing you when those Inset days and half days come around next year. One chapter has closed, its time for the next one to begin!

  • Sports Day 2018

    Sports Day 2018

Sports Day 2018 began with our opening ceremony and some memorable chants from each House team, as they paraded around the school field proudly displaying their House colours! The House races followed, with eggs falling off spoons, beanbags falling off of heads, water falling from cups and water balloons exploding! Lots of fun was had by all!

The year group sprints followed, as well as the toddler race, the mums race, the dads race and a hotly contested final four person relay race featuring a dads team, a mums team, a Year 6 team and a staff team, with the staff team being narrowly beaten in to second spot!

After a break the children took part in thirteen different athletics events over the remainder of the day, competing for House points as they went and having the chance to take part in and enjoy a series of different sporting challenges. The afternoon concluded with the presentation of the Simons Cup to the winning House, which this year was Poplar! Although with every child taking part in so many different events over the course of the whole day, the real winner was sport itself! Once again, it really was a joy to see the whole school taking part in simultaneous athletic events for so much of the day. Thank you to our wonderful parents for supporting us as well as you did and always do and thank you to all of the amazing staff at Wymondley for giving as much as you do to make sure that days like this one can take place.

    Whole School Trip to Ashridge

Today saw the whole school heading off to the National Trust's Ashridge Estate for a day of outside fun and activity! After arriving and meeting our guides it was straight off to explore... A mini beast hunt and a create your own 'sticky minibeast' art activity started the day off for Classes 1 and 2, while an exploratory ramble through the woods began Classes 3 and 4's day.

A whole school picnic lunch on the meadow followed! Followed naturally, with a chance to have fun and enjoy the openness of the meadow, where one of Wymondley unique qualities was clearly visible as every child from Reception to Year 6 played together in a confined space without any issues. All I could see, were children running, playing and supporting each other with a smile on their face. A wonderful sight to behold.

The afternoon saw Classes 3 and 4 taking part in their own workshops, while Classes 1 and 2 had a chance to create their own woodland base and experience all the fun that a forest can offer!

A wonderful day for the children. Thank you very much to all of our wonderful staff team for making today as successful for the children as it was and thank you very much to all of our volunteer helpers for giving up your time today to ensure the children got as much from the day as they did. Thank you all!

  • Class 3 at the Herts School Games

Class 3 at the Herts School Games

Class 3 have been having a fantastic time today experiencing the Herts School Games first hand. They have had the opportunity to participate in a number of exciting sporting events alongside many larger primary schools in a very large primary school sporting event.

Their day started with being part of the official opening ceremony and then it was on to the activities which incluced dancing, circus skills and some freestyling. Following such excitement in this heat it was hardly surprising that the morning ended with ice lollies, the perfect way to cool down!

Further events followed and judging from the pictures below, everyone had a really good time taking part in, and enjoying, a wide variety of sports!

    Quad Sports

On Monday afternoon our athletics team travelled to Preston JMI School to compete against the children from Preston, Offley and Cockernhoe School in sprints, long distance running, relay, long jump and javelin events. It was a fantastic occasion with some outstanding performances from all involved, which included a first place finish in the long distance, a first place javelin finish and a first place long jump finish. We had a number of second place finishes as well and most importantly of all, our children had a big smile on their faces despite the soaring temperatures! Congratulations to all who took part, you made us all very proud!

  • Class 4 Trip to Kingswood

    Class 4 Trip to Kingswood

The children arrived safely at Kingswood and have been busy settling in to their new surroundings for the rest of the week and enjoying some activities. Their first day ended with a midnight stroll off site and across the beach to get a sunset view of the coast - a great way to finish off settling in to their new home for the week.

Day 2 started with a hearty breakfast with a choice of either cooked or continental at the hatch. Following some time to relax and get ready for the day ahead in their bedrooms, they then headed out for their first activities of the day. Group one started with Bouldering (a low level climbing wall) while group two took part in archery. Next up was Aeroball (a basketball type of game on a trampoline!) for Group 1 and Field Games for group two, which included monkey football, foot softball and many other new and imaginative games, which seemed to go down very well with all of the children! Fire starting concluded the morning, with every group managing to start their own fire from scratch!

Lunch followed and was very much needed by many after a lot of morning activities! There was a spare half an hour for the children to have to themselves afterwards before they were off again for yet more activities! Group one headed off to take part in Nightline, which proved to be one of the most amusing activities of the day! Every child in the group was blindfolded and, after placing a hand on the shoulder of the child in front of them, had to use their spare hand to hold onto a rope and follow it along a trail across many obstacles in the woods, with some highly amusing results! They had a great time and I can't remember the last time I saw many of them laugh so much!! Both groups then met up for some shelter building in the woods with the task of creating a waterproof shelter that they could all fit into. The sheer fact that there were large gaps in some of the finished creations should have led the children to the conclusion that they were going to get wet when the shelters were tested, yet some still appeared quite shocked as the water started flowing through directly onto them! Although I may be biased, I must say that despite most not being able to hold water out there were some impressive designs and constructions on show and most impressive of all was how well all of our children worked together. Before dinner there was just enough time for group one to take part in abseiling, while group two took to climbing Jacob's Ladder as high as they could or, more to the point, as high as they were brave enough to!

A mini-Olympics followed dinner as the activities continued through to 9pm, although I must confess that I did not see much of that one as I stayed in the main area to watch our national football team in action on a projector screen, joined by all of those children that wanted to watch the big match as well! It was a great bonding experience and definitely not just an excuse for me to watch the football! Either way, it was lovely to see our children celebrating all around me as the final penalty was scored, a great way to end a great day!

Every single one of our children had a smile on their face yesterday and it really was a joy to see them as relaxed and happy as they were. I am really happy to be able to report that they are all having a wonderful time and enjoying the experience to its fullest!

Unfortunately due to very poor internet coverage at Kingswood, Miss Chiddy has not been able to update the class blog as much as she would have liked to. The children are having a wonderful time away and continuing to enjoy the entire experience and there are many, many pictures that I am sure they are looking forward to sharing with you upon their return.
